Elites

Adrealia is one of the few human kingdoms refusing to have any association with the supernatural upon a world dominated by them. They knew what happens to those humans who associate with these beings. They are destroyed in some shape or form. It is not a fate that they wished. So, they decided to guard their borders and make sure that only humans make their way into their land. If a supernatural being enters they are hunted and killed.

It didn't take them long after first forming these patrols to realize that some of their people were born with special gifts. Magic to be sure. The mark of the supernatural no doubt, but these abilities proved useful in fighting the supernatural. It was decided inside of outright killing those with these unique talents that they will give their lives keeping the undesirables out. Fate had decreed this was their purpose in life. The order of the hunters was born, or the elites as they would later become known for their superior skills compared to the other warriors within their lands.

They only need to send in a few warriors at most to deal with a situation that other orders require a small legion to deal with. It wasn't just their special talents that gave them the edge. It was their strict training program. They were going up with the supernatural, and as such, they needed to hone their skills better than other warriors. As strange as this might sound, in spite of their belief that the elites were watered down supernatural they did understand and honor the sacrifice they were making to their society.

The elites are worthless to live. They merely exist to ensure that normal humans can have lives they are meant to have. A high ranking noble will patron them, and raise them along with their families to a lesser noble if they happen to be born into one of the less well to do classes. Not only that, females will fling themselves at the elite. So, much so that they are never without a companion to share their beds at night. It is considered strange, especially among the noble circle, to be female and not sleep with an elite at least once. There was even a certain stigma for denying an elite.

While the elites were granted many rights and privileges, they were denied the right to live. Anyone born with these special talents had to swear their loyalty to the order or die. There were ways to force someone to take the oath. It was done by bending the mind until it submitted, but more often than not it became broken, or the elite was killed during the process. Only males born with these magical abilities are trained to fight and considered elites. Females born with these gifts have a different fate. The roles of a normal female is never that of a warrior. Her job, her duty is to give men something worth fighting for. She is to be an object and beautiful. Her interests should be gossiping, fashion, arts, music and never politics.

More importantly, if she is unwed a female duty is to find a husband of a higher status than hers and raise her families a lot in life. They saw no reason why the elite's females should not have a similar duty. Through, theirs was vastly different. Their duty wasn't to find a good match, but instead to bare the children of elite men. They didn't completely understand how it worked, but they knew when two people with these special talents had children that their children almost always had special talents. The females were bred with the males by which talents they found desirable.

Every year a ball is held where the elites dress in the same attire and wear masks. Unwed females of sixteen years of age or older are required to attend. Through, married ones can attend if they wish. Most of the night is spent like normal balls, but at the very end, each elite is allowed to take a female back to their private chambers reserved for them that night. While there is a certain stigma in denying an elite it is still allowed. At the ball, no such thing is true. Here is an elite who wants a female she cannot refuse.

The Dark Warrior

Darken had been born during the third age as Devin Kearney. He entered the world into a life of wealth and privilege. His father had been a member of the upper aristocracy and just short of being considered apart of the royal family. He was his father's heir. The only child that he officially claimed.

He would settle for nothing less than perfection even if the task that was set before Devin was a completely foreign one. If Devin failed to perform this task up to his father's standards he would be severally punished. When his father wasn't trying to shape him into his perfect heir he completely and utterly ignored him. Devin quickly learned how to pick up on his father's moods, and made himself vanish whenever his father started to switch between ignoring him and showing interest in his development--much to his father's ire. At first, he hides within their estate but slowly he moved out into the rest of the city until he ended up in the district.

Every city and town across the land had a district. It was what Devin's people called their poorest neighborhood. It was an unsavory place that most high ranking members of society avoided at all cost, but Devin found beauty among the filth. He found honor among the poorest and so-called worst of society that didn't exist among the nobles. He became closer to them than any member of his class and learned from the things he would never have learned if he stayed within his own neighborhood. One of the things he was taught was what it meant to be a true warrior--a man who fought to protect his people instead of fighting for honor and glory.

Another lesson he learned from them was how to hide his powers. They were the first to notice his gifts and knew exactly what that meant--death. His government had declared that it was illegal for anything supernatural to be found inside their lands, and if anything remotely resembling a supernatural being was found were killed. They had seen what happened to other human societies who interacted with supernatural beings and decided that the only way to ensure that their own nation doesn't meet a similar fate was to cut all ties with anything supernatural. Exceptions were, of course, made. If one held a high enough status within society their 'gifts' were pardoned.

It was a few months before his twentieth birthday when his powers were discovered. He wasn't the only one. He had been out with several friends from the district, and they too were found to have special abilities. They were to be executed while Devin would receive the pardon that came from someone of his position. It was not something that he was willing to stand for. Why should he be able to live while they died? They had just as much right to life as everyone else. At first, they wanted nothing to do with what he said, but Devin managed to convince them that allowing them to live might be for the best.

He did it by suggesting that those with special powers should be put into an organization whose sole purpose is to patrol the borders and make sure that nothing supernatural made it inside the kingdom. At this time, the army was the one who has taken up this task. The idea of freeing them from this responsibility, and giving it to someone who was better suited for it was one they couldn't turn aside. They saw the special powers that those like Devin possessed as an edge against the supernatural, and if they died during the process it wouldn't be any real loss.

The order was officially created. Those who made up its numbers were called hunters--eventually, they became known as Elite. Devin was credited with finding this organization, and he was responsible for writing many of the rules that order still follows today. It was him that created the strenuous training program that makes the elites the best warriors within the kingdom. He helped the members of the organization better understand their powers, and develop it beyond anything they thought were possible.
